INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION for EARTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

EARTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is laboratory-based science class emphasizing the function of the earth’s system. Emphasis is placed on the human interactions with the Earth’s geologic and environmental systems, predictability of a dynamic Earth, origin and evolution of the Earth system and universe, geochemical cycles and energy in the Earth system.
NEEDS: For this class you will need multiple pens (blue or black ink) and pencils (mechanical and traditional), a spiral notebook, colored pencils (optional), 1.5 inch 3 ring binder, 200+ sheets of paper, and a flash drive (optional)
ASSIGNMENTS: Homework is considered late the moment after I collect it at the beginning of the period from the designated block homework dropbox. Homework turned in late results in a 50% reduction from the grade earned and is only accepted the day after it is due.
GRADING: Exams, tests, projects, and labs count for 70% of the final grade, and homework, quizzes, and participation make up the remain 30% in accordance with CMS policy.
RETESTS: Students who recieve lower than an 85% on tests will be given the opportunity to make up those tests after completing a required learnign folder on said unit.
MAKING UP WORK: It is the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher to determine what work needs to be made up after an absence.
CHEATING: Possession of a cheat sheet on your person, on your desk or chair, in your calculator, etc. is considered cheating, regardless of whether or not you use the information. Using your cell phone to text during a test or storing information in a graphing calculator is considered cheating. In addition, allowing another student to copy your work is cheating, and both students will be punished. Parents will be notified, and you will receive a zero on the assignment.
LUNCH DETENTION: Detentions are given following a warning for actign against classroom rules and/or procedures, or acting against Rocky River High rules.
A detention consists of reporting to and remaining in Mr. Hundley’s classroom (C126) DURING THE STUDENT'S LUNCH. Detention must be served within 3 days of being given or a parent/guardian will be notified. After parent contact, the student is given 2 additional days to complete the assigned detention. If it is not served in the next two days, a referral will be written and turned in to the designated assistant principal. A parent/guardian will be contacted if 2 detentions are given in a single week.
